Mint Julep

Ingredients

  •   Crushed ice
  • 2  tablespoonsMinted Simple Syrup
  • 4  to 8 largefresh mint sprigs
  • 6  to 8 tablespoonsbourbon
  •   Fresh mint sprig (optional)

Directions

1. Fill two tall glasses with crushed ice. Pour 1 tablespoon of the Minted Simple Syrup into each glass. (For a sweeter cocktail, add more syrup.)

2. Slightly crush the 4 to 8 mint sprigs; add half to each glass. Pour half of the bourbon into each glass. Stir. If desired, garnish with additional mint.

3. Minted Simple Syrup: In a small bowl, pour 1/2 cup boiling water over 1/2 cup sugar; stir until sugar dissolves. Stir in 1/4 cup lightly packed fresh mint leaves. Cover and chill for at least 4 hours. Strain mixture through sieve. Discard mint leaves. Store syrup, covered, in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Makes about 3/4 cup.
